The Woodland of Van Buren, Michigan | Photographer – Special Moments
When I first met with Emily, she expressed to me that she isn’t afraid of color. She also mentioned that she loved the colors and hues associated with the fall. Emily envisioned making a big and bold statement for her woodland wedding theme, so white was out of the question.
For me, it was great to know that Emily loves color. I was very excited to create a woodland theme for her wedding. Her wedding colors were a combination of burgundy, peach, crimson and dark orange, which isn’t a common pairing. For Emily’s wedding, we did a combination of moss, ferns and a touch of flowers to create her centerpieces and decorations.
I can honestly say that working with Emily was truly a blast. I love helping brides plan and execute their dream wedding. To pull off the woodland theme, I was able to work with an array of rich, gorgeous colors. The end result was stunning.
You don’t have to love color like Emily, but you should copy her fearlessness. It’s your wedding so don’t be shy about what you want. If you picture your wedding as a winter wonderland draped in white, communicate that to your wedding team. Emily was upfront about what she wanted so I was able to create designs that suited her visions.
All the design rules that you grew up with have gone out the window. People LOVE creativity in weddings. Don’t be afraid to express your wild ideas. You have to please yourself and your spouse. You’re not bound to honor tradition if you don’t want to.
Emily chose bold colors that really pop. For your own wedding, choose a color scheme that you love. Your wedding day is so important that every detail matters. It’s not enough if something is just “okay.” You need to be excited. You should love everything connected with the design.
I can’t say this enough: your color scheme is very important. If you pick jarring colors, the overall effect of your designs won’t be as nice. However, there are no rules to follow. Choose colors that look good to you. Understated colors wouldn’t have suited Emily but a lot of brides love simple, quiet colors. What appeals to you? Once you figure it out, I can work with you to create your fantasy.
Your options are almost unlimited. Nature has provided us with many brightly hued flowers. They range from vivid reds and purples to dark browns and blacks with everything in between. Pick at least one color that appeals to you.
Your flower arrangement should match your color scheme. Everything should appear harmonious. This is harder to pull than it seems if your only wedding experience is as a guest or through social media photos.
I know couples and wedding guests love it when the venue and the decorations reflect the couple’s personality. I like to ensure that every project that I complete is unique.

Ching & I first worked together on one of our clients’ weddings & she did an incredible job! From her communication to her absolutely stunning florals! Afterwards she reached out to me to do a styled shoot together! She worked on getting fabulous new local wedding vendors to our venue, The Roostertail. Organizing a styled shoot takes more than most people realize but she handled everything in a professional and friendly manner! Since then I have personally reached out to her paper invitation company for two different projects!"
