If you’re reading this, then you’re probably curious about a day on the job in a wedding floral designer’s life. So come on, and take a peek of a floral designers process!
Getting Started: After You’ve Booked
So, you’ve booked me for your wedding. What happens now? First thing’s first, we’ll spend a lot of time figuring out the design and recipe for your wedding right after you’ve booked us. At the same time we’ll provide you a mood board which showcase the color(s), design concept and ideas that we’ve for your wedding. Once we’ve figured out the design and what we need, we place the order with the wholesaler so they can let us know if there’s a problem, such as an availability issue. During the wedding week, we make sure to have no shortage of flowers. This is because we placed our flower order weeks, probably months, ago. Now we are ensured we have the quantity and availability of any flowers we may need. This is a very important step in a floral designers process! As always, we always have plan B and C in place in case anything goes wrong, such damaged flower, shortage or wrong color showed up.
The Wedding Week
Now, it’s finally here: the wedding week. Typically, we start the process on Wednesday when it comes to a Saturday wedding, but this can also depend on the size of the wedding. We make arrangements and bouquets as early as Thursday, and/or Friday. Saturday morning during the actual wedding day, it’s go time. We ensure we load up the truck, map out the route to get to the venue(s), and also, it’s crucial we have a plan B and C, just in case.
The Truth Is…
Oftentimes, people think it’s just flowers, and we only show up for the wedding day. The truth is, we start working on your wedding a lot earlier and the floral designers process is much longer than most realize. Not to mention there’s a lot of knowledge and info that we’ve got on hand in case things don’t go our way. And trust me, there’s been a lot of times where things don’t go our way. But, I wouldn’t have it any other way! It’s such a blessing to have the opportunity to do this as a job, and nothing makes me happier than when I see a beautiful wedding unfold with the perfect floral arrangements!
