A Modern Boho Fall Wedding at Roostertail Detroit

Fall weddings have a magic of their own, and this modern boho celebration at Roostertail Detroit was no exception. With the Detroit River as the backdrop, we blended rich autumn tones of burnt orange, rust, and golden hues with boho-inspired textures to create a day that felt both warm and stylishly effortless.

When my bride Jessica described her vision, she wanted something that leaned boho but still felt modern, nothing too overdone or cliché. Instead of relying solely on the ever-popular pampas grass, I layered in explosion grass, wheat grass, and seasonal dahlias. These additions brought movement, depth, and plenty of texture while still keeping everything cohesive and elegant. The result was a floral story that felt natural, organic, and yet elevated enough to match the chic energy of Roostertail’s iconic venue space.

One of the highlights for me was designing a flower wreath for the couple’s golden retriever. If you’ve ever met a dog at a wedding, you know they often steal the show—and this pup was no exception. With soft blooms framing that golden fur, he became not just a beloved guest but also the perfect model for their portraits. The photos captured pure joy and added an unforgettable, personal touch to the day.

The bridal bouquet was a stunning mix of dahlias, roses, and textured grasses, reflecting the colors of fall without being too heavy. Centerpieces carried the same palette, bringing a cozy glow to each table and tying the whole design together. Candlelight amplified the warmth, making the reception space feel intimate and inviting while still polished and modern.

As a Detroit wedding florist, it’s always an honor to work at Roostertail—its riverside views and clean lines provide the perfect canvas for unique wedding designs. This particular wedding will always stand out to me because it combined the best of both worlds: the timeless beauty of fall colors.
